Preliminary Task

180 Degree Rule

The rule states that the camera(s) should remain the same side of an imaginary line. The line is drawn perpendicular the camera’s viewpoint in the establishing shot of the scene. The rule enforces continuity of the film.

When filming our preliminary task we needed to keep in mind our continuity editing, the 180 degree rule and the sound. As we edited the task together we needed to ensure that as we see the boy walk through the door, the scene then shows him as he walks through seamlessly, this was quite a straight forward process once we got used to using Final Cut Pro. We then kept in mind the 180 degree rule when filming the conversation, as it was shown as a two conversation shot, one shot of a girl was mid and the other a close up. Using two different types of shots helped to get us used to using different shots on the camera.
