7. Looking back on your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Since the preliminary task, I think I have developed a greater knowlage of camera usage and techniques. For example, in the preliminary task, we only used a panning shot and 2 close up shots for a dialogue. And now, in the final product, we have used a wide range of shots such as: an Over the shoulder shot; tracking shot; a mid shot; long range shots and even another panning shot. In addition to this, we have also undertaken a more developed use of sound by using a soundtrack and utilising background sound to the ambient advantage.

In our preliminary task, we did not think about the mis-en-scene of the scene we were trying to replicate and chose to shoot on some stairs, but in the final product: we carefully thought about each intricate part of the shot so that nearly everything represented something in some way in regards to representation of social groups, emotional development and a range of other things.

Also, in the preliminary task there was limited editing as we chose to just add a greyscale filter over the entire film but in the final film introduction this editing took a new form. For example, we used a range of transitions, flashing effects and cut several shots that could be used in multiple areas. There was no dialogue in the final film, however, so we did not have the chance to use what we had learnt in the preliminary task about shooting a conversation. Upon reflection, I think that we would have benefitted from this inclusion if we had added a short conversation.
