1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Enigma Code

An enigma code is where the audience is made to ask themselves questions about the unexplained events on screen. This plays a large part in my media product as the premise of the movie is inferred, meaning that the audience has to figure outhe plot from the introduction with little direct explanation. An example of this would be the ending of my introduction where my protagonist opens her phone to a picture of a woman. This is then interrupted by the main title. The enigma code is behind the identity of the woman and how the audience will not know if it is her mother or a friend. Clearly she is the catalyst to the protagonist's problems but it is about who this person is that instigated all of the problems seen in this introduction. This is comparable to that seen in the beginning of Silence of the lambs, as seen below:

As with our media product, this scene addresses questions within the audience as to who the character is and their purpose on screen. This can also lead to questions about the character's background and/or their future in the movie.

Setting

The location of our movie is both a school and a field. The main one, of which being in and around the school building. The film itself is socially based around students so we needed a setting that would manage to convey this atmosphere.

Another film that is able to create atmosphere with a setting is War Of The Worlds (2005) with a cellar (Seen Below):

Similarly to our media product, the mis-en-scene of the chosen location of War Of The Worlds bodes an eerie atmosphere that suits the genre of film intended. As our was social realism, the setting was made to fit the characteristics of said genre. We did this to ensure that the audience feels as though they are on location.

Costume

The costume of Hannah was revised briefly. Firstly, the character of Hannah was meant to stand out as quite rebellious and outlandish. Her denim jacket, for example, is quite unique to her group of friends in one shot. Standing out in this way makes the character diffrenciate from the 0ther minor characters in the film.

One way in which the costume of a character reflects their personality in another media product would be how Christian Bale is presented in The Dark Knight. The character of Bruce Wayne is intended to come across as rich and dominant and does this through his body language whilst wearing a well made suit. Similarly, our character uses her costume to help her mind dwell within the character that is intended.
